Exposed Aggregate Without The Drawbacks

Washed or exposed aggregate concrete is everywhere in Perth, particularly around pools and driveways, and for good reason – it looks natural and it grips when wet.

What it also does is shed stones, hold dirt in the texture, and go patchy as it ages. Cleaning it properly is a job. Bare feet find the sharp bits.

A washed look coating gives the same appearance in a sealed, continuous surface. The texture is engineered rather than incidental, so you get grip where you want it and a surface that hoses clean rather than trapping everything.

How We Build It

Same technique as the other decorative finishes – trowel work to create the texture, then the topcoat stained before it is sealed in. The aggregate appearance is built into the surface rather than being loose stone held in a matrix, which is why nothing comes out of it.

Grip is set separately. Around a pool we go heavier than we would on a covered patio, and both are decided at the site visit.

Existing tiles or a tired slab both work as a base. Tiles get ground, screeded and self-levelled first.

Choosing A Colour

There is a set range of resurfacing colours to pick from, and we bring samples to the site so you can hold them against the house, the paving and the pool coping in daylight.

Lighter tones run cooler underfoot, which matters more than colour choice usually does when the floor is around a pool in February.
