The Look Without The Material
Decorative coatings solve both. The finish goes onto the existing slab, so there is no demolition and no skip bin, and it costs less than the materials it imitates while being considerably harder wearing than most of them.
The other thing it does, which real materials cannot, is go anywhere. The same floor can run from a living area through a laundry and out to an alfresco without a threshold, a transition strip or a change of material.

How These Finishes Are Made
This is where decorative work differs from a standard coating, and it is worth understanding before you compare quotes.
The finishes are built by hand. We use trowel techniques to create the texture and the movement in the surface, then stain the topcoat before sealing it in. That is what produces grain in a wood look and variation in a stone look, and it is why two floors from the same colour selection never come out identical.
It also means the result depends heavily on who is holding the trowel. A convincing woodgrain or a believable stone texture takes years to get right, and it is the reason we do not sub this work out. Peter and the team have been developing these techniques over 25 years of doing it.
If you already have tiles down, they do not need to come up. We screed and self-level over the top of them, then build the finish on that.

Choosing Between Them
Three things decide it, and none of them is which finish is objectively best.
The light in the room
This is the one people forget. A finish under fluorescent warehouse lighting looks nothing like the same finish in a room with north-facing windows. We bring samples to the site so you see them in your own light rather than under ours.
How the space gets used
A busy family kitchen, a showroom and a pool surround pull in different directions on grip, on how much marking a finish hides, and on how much variation you want underfoot.
The look you are matching
If there is existing timber, stone or cabinetry in the space, the finish gets built around it rather than picked off a chart.
Wood looks generally sit mid-range on price, stone varies with the complexity of the pattern, and washed finishes are usually the most economical of the three.

Decorative Floor Coating Questions
Do my tiles have to come up?
No. We diamond grind them, then screed and self-level over the top to fill the grout lines and any low spots. The decorative finish is built on that, and you would never know tiles were underneath.
How convincing does it actually look?
That depends on the workmanship rather than the product. Grain and stone texture are created by hand with a trowel, so the result comes down to skill. Ask to see samples and photos of real jobs before you commit, with anyone, not just us.
Will two areas match?
Closely, but not identically. These are hand-finished surfaces, so there is natural variation. Most people consider that the point, since it is what makes them read as real material rather than printed vinyl.
Is it more expensive than plain epoxy?
Yes, because it takes considerably more time on site. It is still less than the timber, stone or tile it imitates.
Can I have it inside and outside?
Yes, and it is one of the more common requests. Outdoor areas get a UV-stable system and a higher slip rating, but the look carries through unbroken.
Is it slippery?
Not if it is specified properly. We build the grip level to suit each area, so a pool surround gets more than a lounge room.
How do I clean it?
Sweep or vacuum, then mop with warm water. No harsh detergents and no special products.
How long does it last?
Ten to twenty years indoors when the slab was prepared properly, and it can go longer. The sealer takes the wear rather than the decorative layer, so the look stays intact.
Can you match my kitchen or my existing timber?
Usually, yes. Bring a sample or a photo to the site visit and we will work the colours around it.
